News - Rules & Organisation

Friday 29 Jan. - by Shep

  Hi,

We just wanted to touch base with all teams, 1 day away from the cup kickoff.

First off all, we would like to remind of some important rules along with some new ones we have just added :

  * Downing each other as survivors at the end of a map to gain points is NOT ALLOWED.
  * Tank extinguishing as a result of control change calls for a map restart if the survivors want one. This rule seems especially necessary as some teams use this bug on purpose.
  * All instant kills are allowed, except when they are clearly the result of a bug - in cases therefore, where the survivor should not have died (eg. BOT hunters).
  * In the case of an early tank with survivors running back to safe room, the infected team is forced to attack with the tank in the next 2 minutes (counting from the moment the tank is near the safe room and the survivors are in it). He is allowed to leave the saferoom to prepare for another attack, and countdown is set to 2 minutes again.

We would also like to remind teams that they are required to e-mail us their STEAM IDs (+ Nicknames), along with status and score screenshots at the end of a match.
All players are required to record a demo of the game, which can be requested by admins or players.

  ORGANISATION

As most of you already know, we will be providing the servers for this cup. We have 4 German servers, something you can thank DPI's D4rkr0w for, along with 4 French servers provided by Serverox. We will be chosing what servers teams will be playing on, obviously giving countries farthest away priority on the German ones.

Team captains will need to contact admins via #l4deucup channel on IRC where they will be provided an IP for each match.
Spectators are NOT ALLOWED on any of the servers except admins - keep in mind NGTV will be casting matches in both French and English.
Saturday 30th : Teams will have from 16:00 to 22:00 CET to start matches.
For the rest of the week, matches are to be started between 20:00 to 22:00.
You are to notify admins as soon as possible about the time you have chosen to play the match, so that we can organize everything properly (no last minute organisation).

  Hopefully we've covered everything,
so all that's left to say is Good luck and HAVE FUN !

News - Seed, date & info

Friday 15 Jan. - by Shep

  Hey everybody,

You can now consult the definitive tournament Tree in the "Cup" section - we've put a lot of thought into seeding it right, so we hope you like it.

As for tournament date, we're looking for the cup to take place from January 30th to Febuary 7th. After asking around this seems to be the time window where most teams are available.

We have also set up an IRC channel (#l4deucup on QuakeNet) that will come in especially useful during the cup : our admin team consists of a bunch of people that you don't necessarily have in your Steam contact list, we therefore recommend that you use IRC to ask questions or report any problems (concerning a match taking place for example), to maximise chances of getting hold of an available admin. Keep in mind this also makes it easier for us, admins, since it should in theory avoid one admin getting spammed by everybody, and enable us to allocate tasks more efficiently.

You can also use the IRC to organise your matches - we have however made available to you the steampages of all team captains and admins involved in the cup.

Moving on to servers : all servers should be provided by http://serverox.net with some top notch hardware to ensure optimal game conditions. Those guys have been extremely helpful and open-minded, something for which they have our utmost gratitude. We have however noticed that some people living in places like Finland and Russia experience unsatisfactory pings on French servers. We would like nothing more but to help resolve this issue by providing a dedicated machine located in Germany (3-4 servers), the problem is this costs money. We are willing to put some of our own money into making this possible, but it can't happen without your help : so if you have a couple of euros you'd be willing to spare and donate for the good of this tournament, be sure to let us know.

Finally, as most of you have probably heard, team So High has been pulled out of the competition. After much thought and discussion, we believe we've made the most informed decision available to us. The reasons are as follows : not only does team So High have two very suspicious players - one having a VAC ban, the other being banned from ESL leagues - but we've also had a lot of players/teams complain about their appauling behavior and poor sportsmanship. In case you're wondering why they were invited in the first place, it's simply because our main cup organizer (in charge of inviting teams) did not know about them at the time.

  More info soon !!

  Kind Regards,
  Shep.
